According to the International Energy Agency, providing electricity for all by 2030 would require an annual investment of $52 billion per year, more than double the current level being mobilised. A private debt fund managed by Swiss impact asset manager, responsAbility Investments AG addresses the lack of access to clean power by lending to off-grid energy in emerging markets with a strong focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and South and Southeast Asia. The fund invests in companies that provide solutions to households without access to electricity and to businesses looking for cleaner, cheaper and more reliable energy. Beyond the financing of the dynamic off-grid energy sector, the fund also actively addresses the solar potential for the commercial and industrial sector.

(clean) powering impact solutions globally
“By providing long term funding to entrepreneurs, often as the first commercial lender, we want to enable clean energy businesses like SunKing to scale up their activities and attract more funding in the long run,” explains Ewout van der Molen who oversees responsAbility’s climate finance activities. Over the lifetime of the fund, portfolio companies are expected to provide clean power to more than 150 million people and add 2,000 MW of clean energy generation capacity.
