responsAbility Access To Clean Power Fund

East Africa, India

About 775 million people globally still have no access to electricity. During the last decade, a greater share of the global population gained access to electricity than ever before, but the number of people without electricity in the global South actually increased. Renewable energy has huge social and environmental benefits – if we can make it reliable and affordable for all. Without electricity, most rely on expensive, polluting, and harmful kerosene fuels and gas-powered generators to power and light their home. Millions of people walk miles just to charge their mobile phones, find a place to study, or finish their day’s work

SunKing is a global leader and pioneer delivering affordable solar-power. The company provides distributed solar energy solutions for households and small businesses, who can usually not access or afford traditional electrical grid connections. Since it was established in 2007 the company has sold over 23 million solar products, improving the lives of over 110 million people. According to SunKing data, 94% of families feel safer with Sun King products and 75% observed an increase in daily reading and study time for children.

Learn about the investment:

SunKing

Lighting up a brighter future.

“There is a huge difference using the kerosene lantern and the SunKing lantern. There is no pollution… I have thrown away my kerosene lanterns.” Janendra, a farmer in rural India, lives in a village without regular electricity. His family relied on kerosene lamps for lighting their home, but it was very smoky and blackened their home and clothes with soot.  “Because we don’t need to spend any money on kerosene, we save around 200 rupees a month.” Janendra’s daughter previously relied on kerosene to study, which was dangerous and produced poor-quality lighting. Now, she can study longer, and better.
